Kitchen Facelift #6

Little by Little the kitchen is coming together.
Just not fast enough for AJ & ME.
Both of us are getting in a state of depression.
Something that should be fun has turned into
complete dread. The inconvenience of living
with no sink, no stove, no pots & pans, boxes
all over, eating out, eating take out, frozen
dinners, buming home cooked meals
from Jen, walking on floors that has had the
carpet and vinyl torn up,
just plain living in a state of sheer confusement
is really wearing on us.
All of this is just because 3 cabinets were
ordered WRONG!

The counter top Guys came Wed. and
did as much as they could, which was
quite alot, just not enough to allow
AJ & ME to to get back to a little normalcy.
Even though this looks pretty finished, it isn't.
The back splash was adhered as far as they
could, to the corner. The counter tops were
cut to fit, but not attached. They are just
sitting on the cabinets.

Now as far as liking the looks of what
"is" finished
I LOVE IT!!!!!

I am just so anxious to fill the drawers
and shelves.

I told AJ the first thing I am going to
make is a BIG CHOCOLATE PIE!.....

That is if I can find a Stove I really like,
to fit in this hole. The cabinets
(in this picture) over the stove are to big.
I can not get a Range Hood under them.
They are 21" tall and should have been 15".
The 2 end cabinets, floor and wall mount,
are 18" wide and should have been 21".
These are the 3 bugers that are holding
up progress!

One thing I requested was that the
back splash go around and inside
of my window. The Guys did this
little extra for ME and
I LOVE IT! They are even going
to make ME a new window sill
covered with the back splash.
This was above and beyond what
was contracted.

This is my new sink, just sitting in the
hole, teasing us.
Nana nana nana!
You can't use me!!!!

The only one really enjoying my new
kitchen so far is "Murphy".
He has had so much fun jumping
in & out of the empty cabinets
before the counter top was on.
And you can see he now has taken
over the sink.
I asked him if he likes my new kitchen?
and he said......

Yaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Church Signs

Ok, you all know my remodeling is at a stand still. I was sent 3 wrong cabinets and they have been reordered. This has stopped counter top & back splash, installing sink, new stove and hood delivery delayed, and flooring from being instaled.
I could just throw my hands in the air
("\(*-*)/") !!!!!
To cheer ME up alittle and to give ME a dose of Faith, I got on line and read some Church Signs. There are hundreds of them and believe Me when I get reading them I just can't stop. Some of the Signs fill your heart with Faith, some make you stop and think and some are just down right funny. But they all are getting out the message of God's Love.
Here are just a sample of the ones I liked:
There are some questions that can't be answered on Google.
Read the Bible, it will scare the Hell out of you.
Wal-Mart is not the only Saving Place.
It's hard to stumble when you're on your knees.
Salvation Gauranteed: or your Sins cheerfully refunded.
When you get tired of talking to your friend about God...talk to God about your friend.
"Pray" is a four letter word you can say anywhere (except in a Public School).
Make your eternal reservations now..."smoking" or "nonsmoking".
Are you wrinkled with burden? Go to Church for a Faith Lift.
No Jesus, No Peace..."Know" Jesus, "Know" Peace.
Warning: Exposure to the SON may prevent burning.
God is like Hallmark Cards: He cared enough to send the very best.
Come to Church today and beat the Easter rush.
Don't have anything to be thankful for? Check your pulse!
~~~
and they just keep going and going.
If you get a bit bored with computer sites or you might need a quick shot of Jesus, read Church Signs!
Mourning the Loss of "Common Sense"
Obituary-Common Sense:...
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend,
"Common Sense",
who has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as
"knowing when to come in out of the rain"
"why the early bird gets the worm"
"why life isn't always fair"
and how, on occasion "maybe it was my fault".
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies
(don't spend more than you earn)
and reliable parenting strategies
(adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of;
a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate,
teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch,
and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student,
only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in discipling their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer an asprin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the:
Ten Commandments became contraband,
churches became businesses,
and criminals recieved better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death;
by his parents, Truth and Trust,
his wife, Discretion,
his daughter, Responsibility,
and his son, Reason.
He is survied by three stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights,
Someone Else is to Blame,
and I'm a Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
Kitchen Facelift # 5
Today my new cabinets got accessorized.
The installer dorned them with
Cabinet Jewelery.
The drawer pulls and the the knobs are
satin nickle.
The large handles on the pantry,
are the same design
as the pulls on the drawers,
but bigger.
I went into "SHOCK" when I priced
hardware for cupboards.
The crown molding really puts the
finished look to the cabinets.
Now what do I put up on top of the
cabinets to catch dust and grease?
The bottoms of all my cupboards
and the pantry
have pull out shelves.
No more sitting on the floor and
searching for the right pot or pan.
No more of "Stuff" getting pushed
to the back and never seen again!
This is one of my favorite cabinet
accessorys. This pull-out waste basket.
Now you see it....now you don't!
The counter top Guy will be out
tomorrow to measure.
To be continued......
Kitchen Facelift #4
The last thing to do before the cabinets
are installed is to remove the sink.
That is what AJ did Sunday evening.
Monday morning, April 19, the installer
will be here at 8:00 AM to start putting
my kitchen back together.
It is really getting hard to see the
light at the end of the tunnel,
when you are are is such a mess.
I have STUFF in the storage sheds,
in the garage, in the living room and
sitting on any flat surface.
The stove is unhooked, so there is
no cooking. The microwave is sitting
in the bedroom at the foot of the bed,
so no heating up food. The sink is
gone, so all water is gotten out of the
bathroom basin for coffee, drinking,
and washing up a cup or spoon.
STUFF is shuffled from one room to another.
If you look back at the pictures, you will see
the large orange buckets were in the kitchen,
now they are in the living room.
At last Monday morning, Josh,
the installer gets here and starts to work.
First he takes the top cupboards,
that were in boxes all over the kitchen
and dinning area, out of the boxes and
puts them in the kitchen. The boxes are
broken down and put outside.
At last we can walk a straight line.
He starts hanging the top cabinets.
No sooner do we get use to the open space,
the bottom cabinets are delivered. We are
now worse off then we were.
Tuesday Josh is back again at 8:00 AM to
continue on the prodject. He gets most of it
done, but will be back Wednesday to finish up.
Here is the almost finished hung cabinets.
Next comes the counter top and
backsplash.
I purchased a new sink and faucet and still
have to get a new stove and range hood.
Am I having fun yet?
NO
Kitchen Face Lift #3
Ruin:...Complete collapse or destruction,
or the remains of something destroyed
(Webster Dictionary)
~~~
"This window is just taking up useful
space, it has to go!" I told AJ and
so it went.

Gone!!!! My fridge will now be
in front of it. This will give ME
room for a pantry and
needed extra cupboards and
counter space.

Next Jen and AJ cleared out my very
over crowded cupboards. I did sort
through stuff I haven't used in years
and gave to the Pets & People Thrift Store.

The contents of my cabinets were
packed in large plastic storage boxes
and stored in my shed.

Next the doors were removed.

They then worked on clearing out the
bottom cupboards and removing
the bottom doors.

Now the fun started.
Each manned a hammer and
stared tearing out the cupboards.

Believe Me when I say
"they were noisey".

These were the original cupboards and were
hand built. They were very sturdy and
took quite a bit of muscle to remove.

But, My Darlings stuck with it.

Jen kept saying to ME,
"Mom are you sure you want to do this?"

Like, now is a little bit late to turn back!!!!!

They were like my very own
Energizer Bunnies:
they just kept going and going

and going!!!

Now, I am going to admit,
I did almost
NOTHING!
Every time I got up to help, I was
told to sit down or get back.
Believe ME, they didn't have
to tell ME twice!

I told Jen
"You look-ca like a Women
and work-ca like a Man!

I told AJ,
You Look-ca like a Man
and work-ca like a Young Man!

Load after load was carried
out to the truck.

Just getting rid of this trash is a job in it's self.

This is the new spot for the fridge,
in front of the old window.
The little microwave cart
will be a thing of the past.

Cabinets all gone!

All Gone!

AJ left the sink hook up,
Thank Goodness!
It will come out just before
the new cabinets are installed.

Here Wade and Jen are pulling up
the kitchen floor and some of the
dining area carpet.

Boy am I glad to see that stuff go.

Well this is what I am living in now.
Just remnants of a kitchen.

Well I get a call from my contractor,
and he tells ME my cupboards are in
and will be installed Monday, April 19.
He says they will deliver the wall
cabinets today. And they did.

Now my kitchen and dining area are
filled up with boxed cupboards.
The bottom cabinets will be delivered after the
tops are installed. Then we wait for
the counter tops.
To be continued........
