Hand Feeding our Baby Pigeon Squab

About 10 days ago Grampy discovered we had a pair of Baby Birds.... Usually at this time of year he breaks eggs that he finds in the nests, but these two he missed...sneaky Little Mama Hen.
He soon noticed that the Parents we not taking care of one of the Little Squabs... the healthy baby of the two was growing and the the othe was not. He knew the Baby would not survive the cold weather and not being fed, so in the house it came.
He made it a nest in the Bathroom Basin, added an electric heater to keep the temp at about 85 degrees in the closed off bath room, I am sure glad we have more then one Bathroom, and started to hand feed and water it.
The first night we did not think the Little Squab would make it thru the night..I choose not to even look at it... but the the Baby did make it and Grampy continued to feed and water it by hand.  Now the second night and the Baby is still fighting for life and doing a lot better. It is now anxious, makes squeaky sounds and a bit squirmy when it knows it is going to be fed. It is still not out of danger and no guarantee it will make it...but the chances are much better then when we first brought the Baby in.

This is Grampy feeding the Squab...that I have named
Pidge 🐤 little Pigeon pellets.

Here Pidge is getting a drink of water from an eyedropper...

Tummy full and plenty of water to keep hydrated...Pidge is so content in Grampy's gentle hands 👐

My Sis, that has had Pet Tropical Birds for years, told me that Breeders that hand feed Baby Birds that have been taken from the nest right after hatching, put a small stuffed toy in with them. They will cuddle the toy and it comforts them.
This is what I did for Pidge and as you can see she Loves her New Nest Mate 💗

The Stanfill's at Ploblano Grill......

💖

Because of the cold weather, Christmas came a bit late for the Stanfill's Get Together.  We all met at the Ploblano Grill  on May Ave. and Memorial Road in OKC....a half way point for all of us..

The Adults sat at a long booth ...

and the Kiddos  Cousins sat at a smaller booth right next to us. I know these Little Ones felt very grown up not having Parents or Grandparents breathing down their necks...and they acted just like Mini Adults. Moms and  Dads you should be proud   😊
