The Itsy-Bitsy Spider.......

One morning this Fall, AJ & ME happened to notice this
Grandaddy Longlegs Spider had made our door
jam a nice place to get some morning sun.
AJ & ME love outdoor creatures
(as long as they do! stay outdoors).
~~~
We were amazed at the length of this one's legs.
I do not know much about Spiders, so I decided to look
Granddaddy Longlegs up on the Web. It was quite
interesting.
~~~

There are myths that these Spiders are very poisonous.
Not True!
They do have a venom they use on their prey and they do spin webs.
One thing they can do, which is really neat,
is; if attacked buy another spider or insect,
they can drop a leg from their body on command.
The dropped leg continues to wiggle and the predator
will be distracted by the leg
and the Spider will flee unharmed.
The leg will grow back.

These Grandaddy Longlegs do cluster together for warmth
and safey.
One year AJ & ME vacationed in Texas. We went to an
Amusement Park and as we were walking along one of the
site-seeing paths, we saw two very large boulders laying next to each other.
Comming out of the crack between them, it look as if some kind of animal
fur was sticking out. We thought at first maybe a bear!!!! was
lying behind the large rocks and his fur was peeking out.
A young boy took a long stick and touched the fur.
As soon as the fur was disturbed, we were surprised to
see it was not fur at all.
It was thousands & thousands of Grandaddy Longlegs.
They had clustered together. When they were disturbed,
they scattered in all directions.
That was something you only see once in a Lifetime!
It is something AJ & ME will never forget.
~~~
This Grand Grandaddy Longlegs stayed on our door
for the day and then was gone.
I am glad He left, because knowing AJ we might
have had him living with us, inside, for the winter.
