One May morning in 2009 AJ called ME up from work and told ME to come down to the Store, he had something for ME. Wondering what he had for ME that came from an Auto Parts Store, I hurried on down. When I arrived AJ held out a closed fist and said "here". With my palm up, he dropped this tiny Turtle into my hand. AJ had found this Little Red Earred Slider Turtle crawling around behind the counter. At first AJ thought it was a Big Bug, looking closer he discoverd it was a Baby Turtle. Knowing I usually take in any kind of small Little Critter, he called ME to come to the rescue. That was a little over 3 years ago and we still have our Sweet "Turdie".
This is Turdie, she is a girl, a few days after we got her.
About a month or more later we could see she was growing. I then got on the Web to check out Red Earred Slider Turtles. To my surprise I learned she could get the size of an 8" across dinner plate. She could also live to be in her 90's. Oh my what had we got ourselves into!!!! One thing AJ & ME agree on is that if we make a commitment to an animal, we keep it. We have never had Disposable Pets.
Our Murphy Cat fell in Love with Turdie right from the start. She lived in a small plastic tank for awhile and then went to a bigger one. Murphy had to check out the big tank first to make sure there was some growing room for Turdie. Turdie kept Murph entertained for hours.
Turdie does have a Toy she enjoys playing with....a ping pong ball. She really thinks it is something to eat!
Our Turdie...just as the Web said...kept growing. We finally had to replace the 2nd tank and she went into her 3rd home.
I would have never in 100 years, (about the life span of Turdie) thought I would fall in Love with a Turtle! But AJ & ME have.
WE have watched her grow and grow and grow!
She is in her 3rd tank and I am looking to get her another larger one.
Turtles are not really a good Pet for a child. They are alot of work and can cost you quite a bit of money if you take one on. There is so much more that goes into taking GOOD CARE of a Turtle then just putting it in a pan of water.
Turdie has an inside and out side home. She also has a dry tank with a heat rock for winter.
Please read up on raising turtles before taking one on to raise. And PLEASE remember they grow and grow and LIVE a long-long time. AJ & ME have provided for Turdie to be taken care of in our Last Will and Testament. ( :o) tee-hee)
Oh Please put out water for our wild birds.....PLEASE!
